MedPath Level 3, Comprehensive Medical Biology: Taking Learning to the Real World

Hi friends,

A few months ago, I got an email from the parent of one of my students that brings tears to my eyes every time I tell someone about it—because it’s exactly why I do what I do.

I can see our littlest learners continuing on the path until they reach this level, and what a difference they will make. This student is going to be an incredible professional someday.

Her daughter had gone to a birthday party, and while there, one of the parents told another guest—a child with type 1 diabetes—that they couldn’t have cake because “they had diabetes.”

That’s when my student stepped in.

She explained—calmly and clearly—that there are actually two types of diabetes, and they work very differently.
She told the parent that type 1 diabetes is autoimmune, and no amount of cake avoidance will “cure” it.
She explained that her friend could absolutely eat the cake—she’d just need to calculate her insulin dose and use her insulin pump, since her pancreas doesn’t do that for her.

She even clarified that type 2 diabetes is usually about insulin resistance, which is why some people with it may choose to avoid sugar—but even then, it’s their choice.

The mom who emailed me said, “I had no idea my daughter had internalized this so well. She not only understood it—she used it to stand up for someone.”

This. This is exactly what Comprehensive Medical Biology is about.

Who It’s For

This level is for older middle or high school students who are:

  • Interested in medicine, biology, or healthcare careers
  • Confident in basic anatomy and physiology
  • Curious about diseases, treatments, and clinical reasoning
  • Ready to develop skills in critical thinking, writing, and application

It’s also for nursing and medical students who want to move through it quickly before learning a topic in more depth—providing a solid foundation to build on.

Even if you’re reading this and your learner is still years away from this level, you can see where they’re headed—and why it’s worth staying the course!

What’s New at This Level?

We revisit and deepen everything from Level 2—but now we’re asking harder questions:

  • Why does the immune system attack the pancreas in type 1 diabetes?
  • What’s the difference between asthma and pneumonia—and how do we treat them differently?
  • How does the thyroid work and what does it do?
  • What is the HPA axis, and what does it have to do with everything else in the body?
  • What does an EKG actually show us?

This level includes expanded anatomy and physiology lessons, paired with:

  • Clinical case studies—29 per set, with three sets of various difficulty levels
  • Case report feedback from a medical professional
  • A full lab manual with hands-on investigations, dissections, and more
  • Lessons in human reproduction (included here, and offered separately for earlier levels)
  • MedPath Insights videos that bring medical topics to life
  • Career pages, auto-graded quizzes, and printable resources

And as always, students who enroll in the annual subscription will receive all the printed books by mail: the coloring book, workbook, and now the lab manual too.

Why It Matters

This level doesn’t just deepen your child’s science education. It helps them see themselves in the world of medicine.

They’ll start thinking like clinicians, practicing how to:

  • Read and analyze case data
  • Write thoughtful reports on what they’ve learned
  • Synthesize anatomy, physiology, and real-world knowledge
  • Advocate, explain, and apply what they know—with clarity and confidence

It’s the difference between naming a body part and explaining why a treatment works. It’s not just memorization—it’s meaning.

How It Works

  • Each student has their own login
  • Lessons are self-paced and tracked
  • Quizzes are auto-graded
  • Lab activities can be done at home
  • Clinical cases are submitted in Google Classroom and reviewed by a medical professional who will provide feedback
  • Printable worksheets, coloring pages, or guides are included in each lesson

Launching September 1st

Comprehensive Medical Biology launches alongside all other MedPath levels on September 1st.

Whether your student is ready now, or you’re just starting out and looking ahead, this level offers a clear vision of what’s possible when kids grow into confident, capable learners—with a heart for science and compassion for others.
