Why We Started Mission-Driven Fundraising

Over the past few years, many families have found themselves making harder choices than they expected.

  • Which activities can we afford?
  • Which programs do we keep?
  • What do we say yes to — and what has to wait?

We see it everywhere: music lessons, camps, school trips, extracurriculars, community programs. Even families who deeply value education and enrichment are having to be more selective.

At the same time, schools, groups, and small organizations are needing to fundraise more than ever.

And often, the options don’t feel great.

  • Candy sales.
  • Popcorn tubs.
  • Restaurant nights.
  • Products people don’t really want to sell — or buy.

That tension is what led us to create something different.

Our Inspiration

Dr. Robin’s School exists to help kids (and adults) understand science in a way that actually makes sense — grounded in curiosity, accuracy, and respect for how humans really learn.

As our community grew, something became clear:

  • People didn’t just want the courses.
  • They wanted a way to support them, share them, and use them in ways that helped their own families and communities.
  • And many of those people were already fundraising anyway.

So we asked a simple question:

What if families and groups could fundraise using something they genuinely believe in — instead of selling something that feels disconnected from their values?

That question became the foundation of our mission-driven fundraising and sharing program.

What Makes Our Mission-Driven Fundraising Different

Unlike traditional sales, mission-driven fundraising focuses on sharing value first. This program is not about hype, pressure, or performance.

It’s about:

  • supporting education that matters

  • helping families and groups meet real goals

  • creating ethical, flexible ways to earn or fundraise

  • respecting trust and relationships

Instead of asking people to sell a product, we invite them to share access to learning — with free resources available to explore, and paid courses only if families decide they’re a good fit.

When someone chooses to enroll through a shared link, part of that enrollment supports the person or group who shared it.

Simple. Transparent. Human.

Who This is For

This program supports many different kinds of people — often in overlapping ways.

Families, schools, and groups want to do a fundraiser

Parents, teachers, scout troops, teams, classrooms, churches, and community groups use the program to:

  • raise funds for trips, camps, supplies, and activities

  • offset costs for lessons or programs

  • support classrooms and group needs

Instead of selling products, they share a resource that actually helps kids learn.

Creators and Professionals

Educators, writers, coaches, bloggers, and other professionals use the program to:

  • share science education resources aligned with their values

  • recommend neurodiversity-affirming learning

  • earn income in a way that feels ethical and calm

Many share simply as a resource, without changing their voice or content.

Quiet Connectors and Referral Partners

Some people don’t want to share courses directly at all.

They:

  • introduce schools, groups, or professionals to the program

  • connect people who would benefit from fundraising or sharing

  • include it quietly in newsletters, conversations, or recommendations

Their role is the introduction — we handle the rest.

How It Works (in three simple steps)

1. Get your link
Participants receive a unique link — or a custom support page if they’re fundraising for a specific goal.

2. Share in a way that feels natural
Some people post once. Some send an email. Some talk to a few families. There’s no required approach.

3. Earn or fundraise through enrollments
When someone chooses to enroll through that link:

  • people who share courses directly receive 15% toward their goal
  • people who refer other participants receive a 10% referral bonus (calculated off the original purchase)

There are no quotas, deadlines, or required activity levels.

What People Usually Share (and what they don’t)

Most people worry about sounding salesy. If that’s you, you’re exactly who we want joining us! We are not a salesy business. We are on a mission and we’re asking you to join us.

In practice, sharing usually sounds like:

“We’re using Dr. Robin’s School as part of our fundraiser because it’s thoughtful science education and there are free lessons to explore.”

Or:

“This resource has helped me understand how my own brain works. I thought you might appreciate it too.”

That’s it.

People don’t need:

  • marketing language
  • urgency
  • scripts
  • promises about outcomes

Honesty and clarity are enough. We find that many people were just waiting to discover we exist. You’re making that connection.

Custom Fundraising Pages

If you don’t have a website of your own, don’t stress! For fundraisers, we can create a custom fundraising page that explains:

  • what the group is raising money for
  • why they chose Dr. Robin’s School
  • how people can help

These pages live under docrobinschool.com/support/ and are easy to share with friends, family, or community members.  You can see a sample here.

Ongoing Guidance (without overwhelm)

Participants receive occasional emails (usually monthly) that include:

  • what’s currently available

  • what’s coming soon

  • what’s been working well for others

  • ideas they can use — or ignore

Creators and professionals can also explore:

  • giveaways

  • interviews with Dr. Robin

  • advance context for upcoming courses

Everything is optional. The goal is support, not pressure.

A Program Built on Trust

This program exists because we trust people to make thoughtful decisions — for their families, their communities, and their work.

  • There is no single “right” way to participate.
  • There is no expectation to perform.
  • There is no pressure to do things in a way that feels uncomfortable.

If you’re curious, you’re welcome to explore.

If you’re ready, you’re welcome to join.
