Neurodiversity 101: Know Yourself Better

Neurodiversity 101 is a warm, science-informed introduction to diverse brain wiring—designed to help teens, adults, and families understand themselves and the people they love with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

Taught by Dr. Robin Dickinson, MD, this self-paced course blends neuroscience, lived experience, and practical tools to create a completely approachable foundation in neurodiversity. You’ll learn why brains differ, how those differences show up in daily life, and what it means to support neurodivergent people (including yourself) with dignity and respect.

Through short video lessons, the Neurotype Self-Report Inventory (NSRI), and a 55-page guided journal, you’ll build an affirming, strengths-based understanding of neurodiversity that you can use at home, in school, or in any setting where humans interact.

This course is a gentle and powerful first step into the broader world of brain wiring—whether you’re brand new to the topic or finally ready to understand what has been true about you all along.

Neurotype Self Report Inventory: Your Questions Answered!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the NSRI a medical or diagnostic test?
No. The NSRI is an educational tool designed to help you better understand your unique neurotraits. It’s not intended to diagnose or replace medical or mental health care.
Do I need a formal diagnosis to use this?
Not at all. Many people exploring neurodiversity use this tool before they have access to an evaluation—or simply because they want to understand themselves better. You’ll discover that we all have different brain wiring, not because of a diagnosis but because we’re human.
Will my responses be collected or stored?
No. The NSRI does not collect personal data. Your answers stay with you.
Will I be added to a mailing list?
You will not be added to our main mailing list unless you request to be. You will only receive a monthly neurodiversity focused email (…that may include a photo of a cat who wears sweaters to support her mental health and wellbeing…)
Can I use the NSRI for my child, clients, or students?
If you are a professional, please contact us for a free license. This allows us to track how the NSRI is being used and make improvements. Families and individuals may use it to support conversations and deepen understanding, but you cannot modify, redistribute, or publish it without permission.
What should I do after completing the NSRI?
Most people enjoy learning more about what their results mean. You can continue with: Neurodiversity 101 (broad foundations focused on a different (better) understanding of current diagnostic labels) The Neurotype Journey (deep interpretation of all 52 traits)
Is there a “right” or “wrong” result?
No. Every single person will likely have a different response, there are so many different combinations. All neurotraits exist on a spectrum. The goal is awareness, not judgment.
Is this suitable for teens?
Yes. Teens and adults can complete the NSRI independently. Younger children may need guidance.
Can this help me understand a family member better?
Absolutely. Many people use the NSRI to support communication and create a more neurodiversity-affirming home environment.
